It’s not as good, but it’s pretty relaxing. I bought Honey Vanilla Chamomile instead of Honey Vanilla Chai.

Chai-dentity? That might just be the greatest word that I’ve ever heard.
Ah, so it’s lacking that zing that Chai gives. You should drink it right before work/school, fall asleep for the entire day, and then blame your absence on the tea. Wait, that’s a terrible plan, don’t do that.

Congrats! I have to admit, I’m impressed by the very low Kindle price. The Amazon paperback is not only very close to the pricing on my wife’s book, but close to the same size as well. You’ll have to let me know how that Kindle pricing moves for you!
Well, I technically set it at $2.99, but Amazon seems really intent on making it $3.04, lol. Something about the Canadian/American currency exchange rate, I’m sure.
I’ll definitely keep you posted. I would personally never spend more than $3-ish dollars on an ebook, so I’m going on that assumption for the pricing.
Actually, Amazon.com shows it at $2.99 in the US for Kindle. I know that a big part of self-publishing is all the back and forth on book pricing. People are worried about the written word being devalued because one: You no longer need a publisher (or even an editor) to sell your book. Two: People undercut themselves on price, possibly because they don’t think they can sell a book for the same price as Stephen King or R.A. Salvatore. But with regards to printed books, it doesn’t matter who the author is – print pricing is fairly consistent across the board.
I guess I don’t know where eBooks are going to take the book economy. People expect to pay significantly less for the e-version, sure – no printing costs, no shipping/handling charges. But I don’t know why people try to move all their books at .99 cents, because that’s nothing. It sets an expectation that all books should be so cheap. 5.99 is a pretty sweet zone for me for eBook costs when I’m browsing. Stephen King’s ‘Wizard and Glass’ is on Amazon for 15.00 paperback, or 8.99 Kindle.
I definitely don’t get selling all your books for 99 cents. However, I do like the idea of selling your first book at 99 cents, and then pricing up the others — so the first is kind of a teaser for the audience so they can see if they like your writing style and are willing to spend more money. Thoughts?
The other reason I have a problem with spending a lot of money on ebooks is the same reason I have trouble spending money on music — you don’t actually own it. You have the digital file, sure, but it’s essentially on loan from the company (Amazon, Apple, whatever). So hypothetically if you do something that makes them ban your from their site, you wouldn’t have access to all the ebooks you purchased. Whereas with a print book, it’s yours forever.
To be honest, I’m still not sure how I feel about ebook pricing. My opinion shifts from day to day. Although that seems to be happening with most people these days!
Well, I can see your point with digital copies of something. Really, though, you can and do ‘own’ it by way of rights. Most eBook sites can also let you download the file to your PC, copy your music files from your mobile device to a computer, or something. And from there you can (and perhaps should) back them up anyway. I admit, I’m new to the idea of digital downloads for games as well. I came from the era where Bestbuy was full of game shelves with shiny boxes. Now software doesn’t come with a CD half the time unless you choose to pay extra to have a physical copy sent to you.
I don’t believe in selling your first works dirt cheap, though. I think that a promotion is certainly a good idea – we’re thinking of running an eBook promotion at the moment. The cheapest Amazon Kindle Direct will let us do and still stay in the 70% royalty is $2.99, so we may do just that.
But yes, digital storage is a problem. BioWare’s website used to store your CD keys for your copy of the game, for instance. Then they updated their site and no longer had a way to retrieve them. The same could certainly happen with access to a download, which would suck if you lost or did not make backups.
Congratulations on this, Michelle. May this become a great stepping stone for your brilliant writing career. Keep carving brilliance, you’ll do wonders.

That’s great news – congratulations! After something like six years of working on the book and all the trials before publication, I can only imagine how excited you must be! You should be extremely proud of yourself – most people’s ideas for books generally stop at “hey, it’d be cool if I write a book”. I’m going to order a copy first thing in the morning! Not right now because… well, because it’s two in the morning and I don’t trust myself to operate a can opener, let alone order something online.
On the plus side with online ordering, there’s little chance of you chopping off your finger. On the downside, there’s the chance of spending everything you own and dying a broken, destitute shell of a man. So perhaps sleep was wise after all
And yes, it feels pretty darn good to get this thing published after 6 (7?) years. Now to start the whole process over again with the sequel. Hopefully this one won’t take quite as long …

I’m actually hoping — and this is a pipe dream — that my book will do for aliens and space what Twilight did for vampires. Which means more people will become interested in Astronomy and space exploration, which might even have positive ramifications for NASA, SpaceX, Mars One, etc. Again, definitely a pipe dream, but I can always hope, can’t I?
Indeed! We all can and that’s what makes it good and noble. Why should the Twilights and the 50 Shades do so well when there are authors out there who don’t write pure crap?! Sorry, those books are a sensitive subject for me.
